Jane ( Streep ) is a self-reliant divorcee who has a successful bakery in Santa Barbara. She's in amicable terms with her ex Jake ( Baldwin ). They have three grown youngsters. Jake is a successful barrister who has remarried Agness ( Lake Bell ).However , when Jane and Jake meet out of the city to attend the school graduation of their boy, sparks fly and the relationship has been rekindled.This develops into an affair and Jane amazingly becomes 'the other woman.'To complicate the situation more is Adam ( Martin ), the designer employed by Jane to transform her kitchen.He is coping from a divorce but has fallen in love with Jane.
Meyers is known in the business as a triple threat. She writes, directs, and produces her own films. Her other projects before It's Complicated are The holiday, Something's Gotta Give, and What Women need. The production of It's Complicated started when Meyers made a deal with Universal terraces. The project was called The Untitled Nancy Meyers Project.
As for the principal cast, Streep and Baldwin concluded in Aug 2008 and Martin signed his contract in October 2008. Supporting cast followed when Lake bell, Zoe Kazan, and Hunter Parrish agreed to the project in January 2009. Followed by John Krasinki in February 2009 and Rita Wilson in March 2009.
